Location
This photograph was taken in my in home studio.Time
The time of day is irrelevant, because it is in studio. Although, because there was day light and I didn't want the natural light to interfere with the end result I did set the fstop at f16. Anything f11 and above doesn't allow other light sources to interfere with the scene. So, this could have been at any time of the day or night.Lighting
The lighting was easy to accomplish by using 3 strobe lights. Main at camera right. Fill at camera left and back light behind and left of subject.Equipment
I used my canon 70d, 3 stobes, and 18-55mm.Inspiration
I have wanted to take a photograph like this for a long time and only finally found a decent subject that was available; my step-daughter. She wanted photos of herself with her fancy new dress, so I came up with some ideas that I could use for my own needs.Editing
I did change this image from color to black and white and cropped the image significantly. In the original shot of this you could see her face, but after studying the image I thought that I didn't need to see her face looking down at the camera. She wasn't able to give me the believable photographer look, so I had to crop out her face. She smiled too much and couldn't keep control of her eyebrows, as I had asked her many times to please act natural. In my camera bag
I normally carry my canon rebel xsi and canon 70d and two nice lenses and some filters just in case along with my tripod.Feedback
The most important part of this image is how the subject is holding the camera. Hopefully, it is believable that she is getting ready to take a photograph. I am not completely sure that it is believable because I don't know how to use the fancy old camera that I bought for my camera collection. I tried to guide the model in how to hold the camera. She is kind of awkward and doesn't take direction very well. So, with my experience in working with such a model I have learned that you may never really get the shot you want, so crop what you don't need.
