Location
This photo was taken in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia.Time
I got to the location way before sunrise and was ready with a tripod, waiting for the sun to rise over the mountain. It was probably around 5:30 am.Lighting
No artificial lighting was used, all natural. It was just a matter of waiting for the right lighting condition and it was changing rapidly when things started to take shape.Equipment
I brought two bodies and a tripod. One body on the tripod and another handheld. This one was taken handheld with a Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 50mm/f1.8.Inspiration
The location is a well known tourist destination. There are plenty of photos on the Internet. I attempted to make something different. The colors were just amazing in person. There were plenty of scenic views to choose from. I just had to pick one, made it my own.Editing
The raw photo is processed in Lightroom, mainly for color, contrast, and sharpening. I didn't do any heavy manipulation on it.In my camera bag
My daily bag usually has a Nikon D7000, with Nikkor 18-200mm and 50mm in it. On an adventure, I brought another body, D800, and a few more faster lenses to make landscape photos.Feedback
Research the location. Use the existing photos out there to scout the location. Don't get overwhelmed by anything else at the location; make the photo you had in mind first and then go for the other low hanging fruits. Be patient in waiting for the right kind of light for your shots.
