I took this photo out at a group of salt lakes on the outskirts of our town. I was doing a self imposed photo a day challenge and my word for the day was "industry". Not far from these salt lakes is a mine site that you can get fairly close too, I was hoping to get a cool shot of that but I couldn't so I just wandered around taking photos of anything that took my fancy.Time
This was taken at about 3pm, almost a year ago on September 9th 2015.Lighting
To be honest I wasn't really thinking about lighting. I didn't have to because it was fairly overcast that day with patchy rain so I was blessed with a gigantic soft box.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 600D, my Lensbaby Composer Pro with the Double Glass Optic and my f/4 disc.Inspiration
I was in a photography funk so I gave myself a challenge to take a photo a day using a random noun generator as my subject. My original idea for that day flopped so I wandered around taking photos of power lines running through the bush, wrecked cars on the salt lakes and just generally enjoying the absolute quiet that is being out bush. I was walking back to my car because it had started raining and I saw this tree out the corner of my eye and had to take a photo of it.Editing
I do all my processing in Lightroom as I shoot in RAW but this image has minimal processing. Just some temp adjustment to counter the grey overcast day, some added exposure, clarity and sharpening. In my camera bag
I normally have my Canon 50mm & 85mm 1.8 primes in my bag and my Sigma 24-70 2.4 on my Canon 6D. I also have my Lensbaby CP with the Double Glass optic in there for anything that takes my fancy plus my 430EXII speed light and remote triggers just in case.Feedback
I think to recreate this image you really need to have a manual tilt shift lens. The Lensbaby gives what I can only describe as extreme depth of field due to the tilt shift nature of the lens, the Double Glass optic always gives awesome punchy colours too. The depth of field with the Lensbaby is nothing I have experienced on another lens before.
