This is the picture from the series of photographies taken during my journey throughout Asia, a portrayal of Black h’mong minority set among the Hoang Lien Son mountains in Vietnam. This tribe is kept down and hated by the authorities and Vietnamese. They have no legal identity, documents, physical address. They live in small settlements between terraces of rice fields laid on steep hillsides. They are illiterate. Escaping from poverty women taught themselves English to guide tourists or sell them their handicraft, weaved indigo-dyed clothing. They told me of their beliefs close to catholic observances and of the kingdom of nature. They know every single herb or plant, some attributed with magical qualities, that grow on their nobody’s land.
