Location
I was spending a few days in the Blue Ridge Mountains wanting to capture the leaves changing colors. On the Blue Ridge Parkway near Boone, North Carolina I started driving on a dirt side road and came to this beautiful curve with the leaves, trees and the fence and I loved how the sun was coming through although it was a little overcast that afternoon.Time
I was exploring this dirt road in the late afternoon so there was some deep shadows and bright areas where the sun was coming through.Lighting
I just liked the afternoon glow coming through the trees and all the colors with the leaves scattered on the ground. It is so peaceful out there at that time of day.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D Mark 3, tripod, Sigma 24-105mm Art LensInspiration
I wanted to find some great colors in the mountains last Fall. I love to get in my truck and just start driving. I will take roads I've never been on and follow them around every curve and hill until I come to a stop sign and start a new road. I find the most fascinating subjects and places to photograph. I have driven all over Eastern North Carolina and I wanted a change so decided to go out to the Blue Ridge Mountains near Boone. I really had no idea where I would end up but was able to find a hotel and spent two days exploring the area. I certainly will return This year.Editing
I use Lightroom5 to do a lot of the basic editing, Photoshop CC, Presets from Trey Radcliff, lots of color. I like color in my photographs. In my camera bag
Now I carry a Sony A7R2, Sigma 24-105 wit a Photodiox Pro EF-Nex Auto, Rokinon 14mm wide angle, Sony 90mm Macro G master, Tamron 150-600mm with an Photodiox adapter, Manfroto Tripod.Feedback
Check the local papers for the best time to see the leaves changing colors usually in late October. Find a hotel. Spend several days exploring the countryside and have lots of fun! Mountain countrysides offer really great scenes. Do some scouting out areas for sunrise and sunsets. I have a app on my iPhone called LightTrac which I use to find where and when the sun will rise and set.
