Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Aquarium of Barcelona on a visit we made with the family during the Christmas holidays.

Time

As its a windowless interior is not relevant what time of day photo was taken

Lighting

As in many places like this, it is forbidden the use of the flash so I forced the ISO of my camera to the max to have a chance to take the photo.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D5000 with the 18-55 kit lens attached.

Inspiration

I love nature photo and of course all animals so I take any chance to use my camera in this kind of places. In this case although it was a difficult shot I couldn't resist to capture the beauty of this amazing animal.

Editing

Obviously when shooting with an ISO so high, the quality of the original photo left much to be desired so the post-processing was essential. Aquarium lighting already left a rather dark background contrasting with white hippocampal so I decided to enhance the contrast transforming the image with a fantasy edition. This post-processing includes a pair of layers, with two types of fractalius filter, fused in overlay mode.

In my camera bag

I use a Nikon D5000 and the 18-55 55-200 kit lenses, a cheap tripod and a flash, thats all.

Feedback

This photo for me is the kind of image that makes clear that it is better to take a regular photo, due to bad light conditions, instead getting home without any photo. You can try to solve the problems at post-processing and at the end if you don't like the result you always can erase it.
