I took this image from a balcony, about 100 feet above the beach at Naples, Florida. Coordinates: 26°15'41" N 81°49'29" W.Time
I took this photo in early September at around 8:25pm, at the end of an amazing sunset .Lighting
I used only the natural light of the setting sun and the storm.Equipment
The equipment I used for the shot: Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM, Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod, Manfrotto Ball Head, and Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3.Inspiration
We were enjoying a fantastic meal on the beach at sunset. When the sun was almost gone, an incredibly violent summer thunderstorm moved in from the northeast. The cloud-to-ground lightning was intense and lit the sky over the beach. I ran upstairs, where my camera was already set up and started taking time exposures. I must have taken 30 or more.Editing
I combined four separate exposures using blending in Photoshop. I then masked and selectively brightened the beach and palm trees. In my camera bag
My 5D III, EF16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM, and EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lenses. I also carry an ND filter set, circular polarizer, warmtone polarizer, Speedlite 600EX-RT, Manfrotto tripod with ball mount. I may also bring along an 8-15mm fisheye, 100mm macro, or Sigma 200-400mm lens.Feedback
Be ready! Love your tripod! Always be ready to use it. Take a lot of exposures and bracket them, as you never know until later which one(s) will be the best.
