Macro „micro” universe into the mossy forest

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the nearby of my hometown Petro?ani, Hunedoara county, Romania. Location is in the Parâng mountains, at east of the Jiu Valley, little bit above of the Rusu chalet.

Time

Was taken in the second day of Christmas of 2013, at hour 15:15.

Lighting

The light was from sun in front of me and I tried to limit the flares and intensity of it by placing myself in the shade of that big tree, nothing else special, because I didn't have anything to block the direct sunlight.

Equipment

Camera was the modest (again) and capable Canon PowerShot A495, a compact camera, no flash nor tripod.

Inspiration

Walking along the route and seeing these beautiful trees, I tried to photograph them and capture as well as possible the mixture of beeches with firs and the curvature of the road. The young people who were in front of me provoking themselves with snowballs were a happy coincidence that enriched the photo very well.

Editing

Yes, I scaled the image and I brightened a bit the shadows, I reduced the intensity of lights and accentuated the tonal contrast.

In my camera bag

The camera, and maybe another one for reserve, memory cards, spare batteries, lens cleaner, air blower, tripod, remote with cord.

Feedback

Go out and take as many photos as possible and experiment with taking photos even in difficult lighting conditions to get to know better what the camera you are using can do.
