Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at my home studio. Being able to set up a shoot in a comfortable setting allows me to build rapport and make the production feel like just us girls hanging out!

Time

This was taken the evening of Feb. 28, 2016. My hair/makeup artist, Aleesandra Jones (@beautybyalee) is always quick and amazing. This was the first look of six.

Lighting

My lighting set up was pretty basic- just two strobes fitted with 60 x 90 rectangular soft boxes about 45 degrees to each side of the camera and angled slightly down.

Equipment

To make this shot, I used a Canon 5d mk ii, a Canon 50 mm f/1.8 lens, and two trusty old Promaster SM300 flash heads.

Inspiration

This is one of the first shoots I had geared toward modeling agencies. I really like the clean, simple, test-shoot style you tend to see on agency boards. I kept the styling contemporary with the classic Calvin Klein bra, distressed jeans and the model's pair of sneakers.

Editing

I kept it pretty light-handed. I do some frequency separation to remove light blemishes, sharpen eyes and lips, add contrast to the hair, overall sharpen and slightly brighten and color correct for almost every photo in my book.

In my camera bag

I generally use my 5d mk iii, an 85mm prime, and a 50mm prime lens. I also have a 24-70mm lens I carry when I'm shooting outdoors. I also carry some business cards, a hand-written shot list, and my Beats Pill!
