Location
This photo was taken in Sydney Harbor. I am always intrigued by the turbulence of waters and the way clouds morph to different shapes.Time
It was the busiest time of the day around the harbor. The harbor was crowded with tourists and locals celebrating the Weekend afternoon. I remember my struggle with finding a frame because people moved around. I was using a telephoto lens and had zoomed to the last but there was still noise, so I decided to go with a portrait frame.Lighting
Water is a mystery and its shades are conspicuous. I am always surprised how different lighting enhances the shades in water. On this day, the sky was dull and the water was pale and barely blue. Hence I decided to use a monochrome frame.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D5000 and my personal favorite telephoto lens 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G.Inspiration
There is an old adage – ‘The calm before the storm’. Calm things make me curious. I am eager to know their behavior when disturbed. During this shot, the boat sailed against the wind and the ripples formed into waves. I get my inspiration from raycollinsphoto.com. There’s always a new composition of water shades, waves and turbulence you experience with water photography.Editing
I did not do any post-processing.In my camera bag
I pack my prime lens, the Nikon D5000 body and the telephoto lens 55-300mm.Feedback
Water has very translucent and resonating properties. It adjusts shape to other objects floating on it. It gives color to reflect the sky. It has moods depending on the weather. This beautiful bonding of the earth and water creates incredible photographic opportunities.
