Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the middle of our living room floor!

Time

It was night time... perfect for setting the mood to this photo! It was also important that I could completely black out the room with no light leaks.

Lighting

Lighting is key!! If you use it correctly it can help shape the story within your photographs. In this photo the only light used is that of a flashlight!

Equipment

Nikon 5200 along with an 85mm f/1.8g lens. No flash used.

Inspiration

My kids! It's amazing how the most magical moments can unfold in your own home.

Editing

Photoshop. I altered the contrast and shadows slightly and processed it in black and white.

In my camera bag

My camera, 85mm lens and an extra battery!

Feedback

Don't be afraid to play with light! It works better if you have a surface for your light to bounce off of to assist in illuminating your subject's face. In my case, I used a book with shiny/glossed pages to reflect the light back up.
