Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the National Historic Site of Hebron, Labrador. It's a very special place with significant Inuit History. This is one few remaining houses left standing since the Inuit were forced to relocate in 1959.

Time

This was taken early in the evening and as I was walking by as I did many other times, something just hit me as I looked directly through the window through the other side. So I had to go and snap this picture.

Lighting

With the old weathered house and the sun setting, it made for some interesting colours, however the mood and the place I felt it be better as a black & white.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D80, no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

As I mentioned above, as I was walking by this house I could see directly through and something about it hit me. I wondered what it would of been like looking in the window and seeing the families living there in such a harsh environment. Or looking out the other window at such a harsh but yet beautiful landscape. This must of been a happy home and was sad to see it falling down as the others already have.

Editing

I did some minor changes in lightroom, however I wanted to show as much of the natural structure as possible.

In my camera bag

I've only ever had second hand cameras that I bought from friends. I now have a Nikon D700 that is also old but still works.

Feedback

Sometimes you just have to listen to your gut and the moment and run with it.
