Location
This photo was taken at a beautiful chateau in the south of France near Nice, at an artist retreat. It was the first time I got to shoot at a location like this and I was immidiately drawn to the staircase.Time
This image was taken around noon. It was the beginning of May and it was already starting to be really sunny and warm. Outside the light was quite hard, but I loved the way it fell over the staircase.Lighting
Only natural light was used in this image. The chateau was quite dark even though it was really sunny outside. I used quite a slow shutterspeed, because I loved how it showed the movement in the dress.Equipment
This was shot on a tripod with Canon 5 d Mk II and a 50 mm lense.Inspiration
I absolutely fell in love with this beautiful staircase and the huge windows above it. My model (the amazing Jen Brook) looked so tiny standing on the staircase. I chose a gown that would fit the color-scheme, which I wanted to be calm and serene. I was inspired by our shared human desire to reach higher.Editing
My post processing in this image was mainly focused on the colors of the image. I added yellow to the highlights and added some vingette to the left side. I added some more light over the subject's face to pull the focus more on her face.In my camera bag
Nowadays I shoot with Canon 5d Mk III. I love my Sigma art lenses, I have the 35mm f1.4 and the 50mm f1.4. I usually also pack my Canon 24-105mm f4, just in case I need more millimeters. I also have my tripod, although I also shoot handheld.Feedback
This was a very instinctual shot for me. I think the key to this shot was finding the right shutterspeed to show the motion just as I wanted to.
