Location
This was taken in an area called the Tribe of the Three Gorges in the Yangtze River on a recent holiday to China. I love nature photography in particular wildlife, I am self taught and always find I am always learning something about this medium. I like to get critic from my peers to be able to keep improving, but for what I have learnt and done so far I am very proud.Time
Mid morning, after walking for quite a while we came across a group of wild monkeys although by their behaviour I think they are quite accustomed to tourists as they didn't seem to be bothered by our presence. I sat my self down off the walking track and as they started to get close and walked around me I just kept shooting hoping that I would at least get one shot in focus, and yes the adrenalin was pumping.Lighting
Although a fairly bright sunny day the canopy of the forest gave a natural shade thus creating a very pleasant ambience to the place.Equipment
I used a Sony A55,with a Sony 55-200mm F4-5.6 SAM, no flash or tripod used.Inspiration
Love of animals and nature and being in a place that is so remote that just inspires to capture the sites. As well having the opportunity to get so close to the subject, it gave the chance to capture their feelings by focusing on their facial expressions. The eyes tell the story.Editing
I increased the photograph's contrast slightly and reduced the shadow effect. In my camera bag
SonyA55, I have found from a beginner's point of view and being self taught it is a very easy camera to use and learn from, as well I have a Sony55-200 mm lens and recently I have acquired a Sony 70-400mm lens that I have fallen in love with as it really lets me get close to the subject, I use a Sirui tripod and a Manfrotto monopod, as well sometimes I will take a Sony 18-55 mm lens.Feedback
I always enjoy taking close up photographs of the subject's face and always try to focus on their eyes, I think by doing this their whole personality becomes more visible,.... after all the eyes are the window to one's soul.... so they say.
