Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my garden in Ipswich. It wasn't planned or thought about, it was a spur of the minute - quick-the-robin's-in-the-garden shot!

Time

It was early afternoon, my husband had just moved some garden furniture revealing the insects underneath. The robin, which is a regular in our garden, saw his chance and grabbed the biggest spider. I was lucky enough to have my camera pointing in the right direction and only had time for one shot before he flew off to enjoy his prize in peace and quiet!

Lighting

I was really pleased with the lighting and structure of the shot and it only needed a little cropping. There was no time to think about lighting and settings, and I just love that it was so spur of the minute and it has proved to be one of my favourite shots.

Equipment

This shot was taken on a Nikon D3200 with a 55-300mm lens.

Inspiration

The robin is a regular visitor in our garden and my children always joke that all the birds disappear when my camera is out but the robin was to intent on catching the spider to worry about my camera!

Editing

This photo hasn't had much processing done apart from a little cropping and straightening.

In my camera bag

Because I am a complete novice I tend to stick to what I know and usually use my 55-300mm lens with my Nikon D3200.

Feedback

I love the shots that have not taken any planning, that have just happened... right place, right time. So I try to take my camera with me wherever I go and just enjoy taking photos. I am slowly learning about settings and aperture and ISO etc! So my advice would be, just enjoy it!
