Location
This was taken in the hallway of my apartment in West Chester, Pennsylvania.Time
I took this picture late one night when I could not sleep. I believe it was around 1 am on a night after I got home from work. This picture was taken last year in December, and sadly I cannot remember the exact date. One thing I remember about this night when I look at this picture is I felt very creative and full energy and wanted to make the best of what I was feeling.Lighting
I wanted to work on some of my techniques and work with shadows. I kept the whole apartment dark and used on small table lamp behind me.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 70D with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens and tripod.Inspiration
I have seen many images like this with dramatic lighting that really drew me into those pictures and I wanted to give it a try with my work. As I was shooting this I wanted to give the viewer a look into a college student's mental state. The world around them might look dark and dim, but there is always light that will shine through and guide them through the difficult times.Editing
This picture did not take much post processing. I corrected the shadows and highlights slightly and then added a greyscale filter. In my camera bag
My equipment I normally have in my bag would be my Canon 70 D, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS lens and 50mm f/1.8. I have been shooting more with my 50mm lens now to challenge myself to not rely on a telephoto lens. You can always find a small tripod, notebook, Bluetooth speakers, and charger for everything.Feedback
Be patient when you set up the shot and when you are taking it. Self-portraits are the type of photography that takes patience and time to get the shot you want.
