Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Laurel Hurst Park in Portland, Oregon. The Northwest is a beautiful place to photograph, lots of green and very colorful in the fall.

Time

Fall is a great time of year! This image was taken at 5:20 pm on October 2nd, 2015.

Lighting

The lighting was beautiful at that time of the day which made all the difference, no other lighting was used.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D 5500 with its 18-140 mm kit lens at 52 mm. The ISO was at 400, 1/15 exposure and 5.6 f/stop.

Inspiration

I was inspired to capture this moment because it's my daughter Anna and her fiance Ronald, sharing with us the very spot where they got engaged. Both myself (mother of the bride) and mother of the groom got to take them out for an engagement shoot, a cherished memory for us!

Editing

I added some warmth in photoshop using actions I bought from Paint The Moon, I am self taught and have since been shooting in raw and learning everything as I go. I love photography! I'm a mom of three and our youngest is four so I don't get as much camera time as I'd like. My journey in photography has been ongoing since 2008. Family first!

In my camera bag

I only have my Nikon D 5500, the kit lens and a 35 mm I recently bought. I do also have a Lens Baby that I need to get out and use more.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is what I'm trying to remember myself, and that is; just get out and shoot! (with your camera that is!) Practice makes perfect, and nothing ventured...nothing gained. Its hard for a mom with mommy guilt and self doubt creeping in, but I have to keep reminding myself this is my journey and I shouldn't compare myself to anyone else. Everyone's photography journey is unique to them, we all have a beginning and grow from there. Photography is a gift to the world, a time capsule of everyone's lives.
