Behind The Lens

Location

From the sidewalk in front of my house. I live in a subdivision. I hope this encourages others that you don't have to drive to a remote place and camp out for hours to take a nice photo. :-)

Time

I don't recall the exact time of night. I took a number of photos from about 9:00pm until about Midnight. My guess would be a little after 11pm

Lighting

All natural lighting from a beautiful eclipse.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7200 with a 300 zoom lens on a tripod with a remote shutter

Inspiration

Hard to resist an opportunity to snap a few photos of a beautiful eclipse!

Editing

I take my photos in Raw format which allows me to clean up the coloring and give a more true representation of what my eye sees in nature. My software of choice for editing is Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Probably the usual, camera, lenses, lens filters, lens hoods, external flash, cleaning cloths, remote, extra memory cards and batteries, and doesn't hurt to have the manual for the camera in there too. In case I forget how to do something.

Feedback

Since I was in a neighborhood, I needed to zoom past the light noise from the houses and street lights. Although, I did have fun playing with the lens flares after I got some serious photos done. A lot of us have areas subject matter where we are more comfortable with our photography skill than we are with other types of photography. For example, I am a real estate photographer by trade. Don't be afraid to experiment outside your comfort zone. I feel like not only am I more confident with taking photos of other genres, but it also improves my photos I take for work.
