In Lion society males get kicked out of the pride around this age. This is absolutely necessary as otherwise they will start mating with essentially their mothers, aunts etc. Males then wonder around for a number of years in which they have to fend for themselves and become true lions. As this pride only had one male pride leader and these 5 young males where probably to much for him to kick out at that time. So the strain showed on the females who had to feed them all..I later learned that the 5 juveniles stayed together and became one of the most powerful male coalitions in the region. Remaining in power for more than 4 years. Something also extraordinary as in general males rule for a period of 2 to 3 years. As Lionesses take 2 to 3 years to become sexually active this is also necessary to keep the species healthy.
