Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in our backyard when we got hit by the big winter storm Jonas. I am a self-taught photographer and this was just a couple months after I got my very first camera.

Time

This is one of my favorite images. I woke up that day to find that we had been hit by a big winter storm and received over a foot of snow. This was the biggest storm we have ever had in West Virginia. I knew I wanted to capture such a big moment in our weather history, but to also capture the beauty of the breed.

Lighting

I wanted this photo of my Siberian Husky to really bring in the mysterious, mythical nature of the breed. I wanted it to really capture the viewer and for them to be pulled in by his eyes.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon 70D camera and my 500mm lens.

Inspiration

I have always been inspired by how beautiful my husky looks in the snow. It has always really brought out his beauty and that gaze that he gives just makes it so captivating.

Editing

No

In my camera bag

I normally always have my camera, of course (Canon 70D). I usually carry both of my lens so i can capture images close up or far away. I also have an extra memory card and a fish eye lens.

Feedback

Advice I would have for others would be to capture an image of something that inspires you. For me, that is my dog. Don't be afraid to play with lighting or to use a different lens. Also, play around with the ISO and aperture. I am constantly changing mine because just a small tweak can make for an amazing picture.
