Location
This shot was taken on the Coral Coast of Fiji, off the balcony of a holiday home I was staying in at Maui Bay.Time
It was very early on the second last morning of my stay. The weather had been affected quite heavily by Cyclone Ula during my stay, with rain and clouds putting a damper on photography for the most part. I think it was the absence of the sound of rain that initially woke me on this morning.Lighting
As I looked out the window that morning the soft coloured light was what made me jump up and grab the camera.Equipment
This was shot on Olympus EM5 Mark II with the 12-50mm Olympus Lens. No tripod, but I did lean against the poles on the balcony for support and keeping steady.Inspiration
Having had not a lot of luck with my photography over this trip it was really the light that got me out of bed. Knowing that it was one of the last opportunities I was going to have for a shot from that location, when I saw how beautiful the sun was peeking through the clouds, it was something that I wanted to capture.Editing
As i had shot in RAW i did do some post processing. I increased the exposure in the shadows, and increased the clarity a little to better define the starburst and add definition to the clouds. A small increase in the saturation to heighten the sense of drama in the sky.In my camera bag
I dont tend to carry a lot of equipment. I really feel like I am still at the beginning of my photographic journey, and I think my kit reflects that. I have the EM5 Mark II body and 3 lenses - the 12-50mm, the 75-300mm and my 45mm 1.8.Feedback
My advice would be to just keep shooting. A year ago I don't think I would have been able to get this shot. I wouldn't have had the confidence in my own ability. I am consistently learning and reading and looking for new ways and ideas. Being inspired by fellow photographers. Being in the right place at the right time doesn't hurt either.
