This photograph was taken at Bowood County Fair in Wiltshire, UK. I was so preoccupied trying to get some action shots of a wild west display (which over ran it's time slot) that I missed out on a birds of prey display that I had really been looking forward to seeing and photographing. Luckily though,I was granted access to the tent where all the birds where being kept and permitted to take a few shots. This is one of my favourites.Time
It was taken mid morning on a bright sunny day in late summer. The suns bright light flooding through the open flaps of the huge tent, the heavy canvas doing just enough to take the harshness out the bright sunlight. This allowed me to get some good handheld shots of some owls and a couple of falcons.Lighting
However, this particular bird was in quite heavy shadow in the far corner of the Tent so I left the ISO on auto mode in order achieve a fast enough shutter speed to shoot handheld (having set the aperture to f 5.6 in aperture mode).Equipment
I was using my Nikon D 610 with a Nikon 70-300 mm lens set to set just short of full zoom.Inspiration
The birds themselves where my inspiration, they almost invited the camera to capture them.Editing
I can't remember exactly what post-processing I did with this shot, I normally run through the basics in lightroom with all my pics. I do remember having to brighten this shot up a bit and and tweak the white balance, I may have did some noise reduction (it was shot at ISO 2000) which means I probably added a bit of sharpening to compensate. In my camera bag
I recently swapped my D610 for a D750, and love it. As for lenses I have a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8, Nikon 24-70 mm f/3.5-4.5 and Nikon 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 mm, I also have a Sigma 105 mm f/2.8 macro lens. (all but one of these I bought used, at reasonable prices).Feedback
I do not think I have been practising photography long enough, or well enough, to be able to offer much in the way of advice or criticism, but I do think that we all should enjoy taking photographs and not get caught up in how good or bad the results are, Practise will bring results. I think we just need to recognise whats good and what it is that we like in our own, and in others, work and always strive to achieve or better that.
