This photo was taken at Morningstar Mill at Decew Falls in Thorold Ontario.Time
The photo was taken around mid afternoon on a crisp fall day in early November. The color of the leaves had reached their peak and begun to fall off the trees. It was so beautiful and the sun made it so warm to be out. I love to hear the crunch of leaves under my feet. This is one of my favorite places to photograph.Lighting
With it being mid afternoon, the sun was behind me, so it fell nicely on the scene. I wanted it to show the reds in the mill barn as well as the trees in the background.Equipment
I used my Canon point and shoot. It was the Power Shot A1100IS. No tripod or any other equipment. I was so happy that this photo turned out so well, it made me want to pursue photography.Inspiration
I love this place, it is but a mere 15 minutes away from where I live. I was driving with my husband, the day was so beautiful and warm. We decided to stop by the mill and walk around to enjoy the fall colors and gorgeous weather. My favorite time of year is the fall, we were married on October 18th 2006, this place brings back the memories of the colors in the trees and this time of year that we love so much. I am glad we stopped, a photo is worth a thousand words.Editing
I cropped the photo and tweaked the light levels and enhanced the color a small amount using photoshop elements 13.In my camera bag
I own a great little bridge camera, the Canon sx60hs now. I am saving up to upgrade to a DSLR, hopefully the Canon 80d or 7d mark ii, not sure yet. I carry my camera bag around and have filters, uv and polarized. I carry my tripod and extra battery. I also have a remote shutter I do find handy at times. I will expect to carry around a lot more when I upgrade. But for now, I am learning all I can using this camera.Feedback
My only advice would be what was told to me, get out there and see the world, explore with your camera , be patient and learn all you can about lighting, composition, right times of day to shoot, be aware what is around you. Most important, have fun, enjoy yourself. Sometimes you may surprise yourself and capture something truly amazing.
