I have a long commute from where I live to where I work in Somerset, KY since I live in a rural area, and I love taking photos along the way when something inspires me.Time
Early morning.Lighting
I really like silhouettes, so I try to get the subject in between me and the sun (the tree in this photo).Equipment
I do quite a bit of on-the-fly shooting from my jeep. On this particular morning, I had my Nikon D90 and 18-105 lens with me, and I just paused long enough to shoot a few shots from the open window.Inspiration
I saw the silhouette of the tree in the fog as the sun was rising and I wanted to capture the shape of the tree and it's limbs...Editing
I did not do any post processing on this photo. I usually prefer to keep things "as I see them" for the most part.In my camera bag
Camera, lens, extra battery and cards, cleaning cloth, filters, and a tripod.Feedback
Weather and time of day is everything. Early (the earlier the better) morning when there is a fog or mist. I liked the silhouette of the tree bare of leaves, so this one was taken in the fall/winter months after it had already lost them. Think about framing... what 'feels' right when you see the composition through the lens? My advice is to know the basics, but go with your gut.
