Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken whilst cruising around New Zealand in December 2015 at Tauranga, Bay of Plenty.

Time

I love cruise ship holidays although we never seem to be at these amazing destinations during the best photographic hours. We were lucky enough to have a few extra hours at Tauanga which gave me time to capture a quick sunset before rushing back to the boat

Lighting

The perfect last glimpse of light as the sun sets through the clouds on a warm summer's day

Equipment

For this shot I used a Nikon 810 with a 14-24mm lens & tripod

Inspiration

To be honest I was actually quite limited for time, Tauranga is such a beautiful destination, I would have loved to been able to explore if further. I really wanted to capture the whole scene rather than focus on just one element. The vivid colours of the rocks, water, country-side and sunset.

Editing

I always shoot in RAW Basic adjustments & spot removal were applied

In my camera bag

I usually travel with my Nikon 810, 24-85mm & 14-24mm lens, Induro tripod, shutter release trigger & a couple of ND filters

Feedback

When capturing long exposure images it's important to have a good sturdy tripod, especially in windy areas.
