Part of Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii Island. Kiluea is an active volcano and part of Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii Island (aka the big island) We went out at sunset to photograph this amazing and exciting event as fresh lava pours into the sea creating boiling water and clouds of steam!

I always use natural lighting and of course I favor the magic hours for the best results.Equipment
Hand held Canon Xt3i with a 18-135mm lens protected by a uv filter.Inspiration
The incredible beauty and power of the erupting Kiluea volcano and the drama and danger it presented. Now the current eruptions are even more powerful and dangerous and much care must be taken when getting this close...a really good telephoto is needed to avoid melting shoes!Editing
Very little editing - just a little cropping and maybe a little bit of saturation. In my camera bag
2 Canon camera bodies, 18-135mm, 10-18mm, sometimes a 400mm for wildlife mostly, filters, extra batteries, battery chargers, cleaning kit.Feedback
Be very careful - this is dangerous and unpredictable, and if authorities even let you anywhere near this kind of activity, you must be very aware and ready to run if the activity suddenly accelerates. Wear protective clothing and really good shoes or hiking boots that allow you to move quickly - keen awareness is a must!
