Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture near Santiago, Chile. It was a trip from three cold days, but it was worth it. We wanted to reach the "Moai" mountain, but we run out of time. The photo here was our view from our second camp.

Time

It was about six o clock in the afternoon, the sun was going down and we needed to set up our camp. But just before that, I took my camera and made this picture. The landscape was blowing our minds!!

Lighting

The lighting was a little bit tricky in that moment. The clouds were moving fast, but when I got the sun behind one of them, it was the right moment.

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D7100, with a 10-20mm f/3.5 Sigma lens. I love that lens. Every time I go for a ride I took it with me. No tripod was needed, there was light enough. Just that for the photo and all the equipment to get there, obviously.

Inspiration

Well, i'm always looking to go for a photography trip, but because of my schedule (i'm not a professional photographer) it's difficult. In this case, some good friends of mine called me to hike the "Moai", so it was the perfect moment to take my gear out. Trekking is one of my favourits activitis also, so it was perfect.

Editing

Always! I shoot raw, so post-processing is a must. The dynamic range was complex, a lot of shadows and a bright sky, but I was able to do something in lightroom. So remember to shoot raw!

In my camera bag

Nikon D7100 body Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 lens (love that one) Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 lens (it's great fot indoors portraits) Nikkor 73-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (just in case) Extra batteries A remote trigger and depending on the situation, I take my Yongnuo flash too, it's amazing!

Feedback

To be patient and look all around you, that´s the key. You can travel all around the world, but if you don't pay attention, you're gonna miss the opportunity. Other thing is to carry your camera all the time (if it's possible), because you never know when it´s gonna be That moment.
