I felt compelled to post this picture. I know what you're thinking: nice colors, almost high def, photo divided into thirds, nice texture on rocks, DOF to highlight subject, and some not too ancient hieroglyphics. What is it and why would anyone post it.? Is it art, an historical landmark, or something interesting with historical significance? Well, here is the real story. We had heard and read about this awesome hike that leads through a very cool tunnel and winds along a small creek, then comes out at a rocky inlet on the Monterey coast. Excited to see this incredible view we grab our gear and start the hike. It was not that long but went straight down a very steep road. I started to worry about 1-2 way down looking back to where we started. We found that tunnel, not that great & not even one picture taken. Then the creek almost a trickle and finally a hole in the rocks with a path that led to this pillar. That was it. There was nothing else there ... just a pillar that was once a part of a dock used to load wood chips into boats. Sooooo, I present you to my quest. Got my shot, now it's time to go back before dark. The same road back had become even steeper. Was it worth it? No grand coastal shot but I did get a shot of part of a pillar with graffiti on it... was it worth the journey? I think so.

I think you articulated perfectly that it's the journey that's important, not necessarily the destination! Great photo, great edit, perfect description to go with it! Well done!

Very beautiful shot and I love the story that goes with it. I think it was worth it too.

I think anyone with a camera would have captured the converging land and water with all the colors, but your inclusion of the old dock post ruin made this photo exceptional and special.
