Dainty blooms resembling a lady’s slipper adorn some types of orchids. From “Paphia,” another name for Aphrodite, and “pedilon,” meaning sandal, “Aphrodite’s sandal” is the origin of the Paphiopedilum orchid’s genus name. Commonly called lady slipper orchids, P. maudiae is one species recommended for beginners because of its comparatively easy care. Shot at Singapore Botanic Gardens.
