Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the River Arun, in Arundel, West Sussex. England. I was lucky enough to be doing a relief management role in the pub where the river flows right in front. I was awake early being delivery day, and was a bitterly cold morning, saw the sun breaking and just knew it was going to be that one shot. Grabbed the phone out of my pocket and with the VividHDR app got this.

Time

If I remember correctly, it was about 7:30am on a cold frosty morning in January, 2016.

Lighting

I was fairly lucky that my room and the pub was facing east, overlooking the river and the flood plains/meadows beyond, so always had a good vantage point of the sunrises and if it was worth getting up for. The light was definitely worth every minute in the cold for this

Equipment

Iphone 5s using the VividHDR app

Inspiration

I think just seeing the sun rising through the mist was the only inspiration I needed. I don't have any area of specialty it's just whatever catches my eye at the time

Editing

Minor tweaking of the brightness and contrast, marginal cropping.

In my camera bag

Canon 50d, tamron 18-50mm 2.8, canon 10-18mm, canon 70-200mm USM, spare batteries, memory cards, lens filters and hoods. I also have my trustee 500d as a back up body and kit lenses if all else fails on me.

Feedback

Be there on a cold winters day, check the tide times as it was a tidal river, if the time and conditions are right for about 5 minutes the river stops flowing in or out as the tide changes, you will get some amazing reflections.
