Location
I took this photo while on vacation with my family. We were in Minnesota at a Russian Camp for a few weeks. My mom is a seamstress so she made this dress and brought it with us just in case. We had a blast exploring for some shooting locations.Time
I remember this was on a gloomy day. We took a drive down a very small dirt road. Did not know where it was gonna lead us. We stumbled upon a small open area that had a decent amount of logs like these. Some piles were smaller than others. This pile was high enough to capture my 7 year old sister fully. She had as much fun as i did. This ended up being one of my favorite photos. You never know where a dirt road can lead you. So take a risk!Lighting
I was lucky it was an overcast day because i did not have much equipment on hand. It was an unexpected adventure so i worked with what i had and it ended up working out quite well.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D5000 with a Sigma 17-70mm 1:2.8-4.Inspiration
I wanted to explore more. To take a chance on a location i have never seen with a child. That is difficult considering. We explored for a little while before settling with this location. My crew consisted of myself, my sister, and my mom. It is always a challenge to work with family but i made it work. The dress was my inspiration for this shot. I wanted to showcase all the detail.Editing
The editing for this was minor. Just wanted to brighten up the image a bit. Nothing crazy. In my camera bag
Normally my bag is full of goodies. Ranging from several lenses, flash, ring light, plenty of memory cards, a small set of reflectors, batteries, etc. The basics. But i normally bring my small pelican case. It houses anything and everything one needs. I usually take it with my when i travel.Feedback
This photo came to be out of pure imagination. We explored for a good location and when we found it i had to take advantage. There was no crazy set up. I worked with what was already there. It was simple and absolutely fun. My advice is to pack light. Don't bring too many lenses. Get to know all of them individually and you will see which ones you need when. Explore! Explore! Explore! Thats the best advice i can give.
