Behind The Lens

Location

I was travelling back home from my original hometown of Chicago, Illinois. That day I was at a Tennessee rest stop and they had all sorts of flowers of various colors, and it was really sunny. I was sitting down by the flowers and a bee happened to land on of the prettiest daisies. It was coincidental, and the bee was almost posing for me. Actually, it was blind shot because the sun was so bright and I couldn't see the screen.

Time

It was around 1 o clock pm, and the sun was at its highest. It was also sweltering that day.

Lighting

I have always preferred summer sun lighting because it's the brightest of all and the warmth always adds a freshness to the photos. Natural lighting is always the best way to go.

Equipment

I actually just used my phone's standard camera. Nothing special at all! Samsung Galaxy S4

Inspiration

The beauty of nature, as cheesy as it sounds, was the inspiration. I originally was just going to photograph the daisy, the bee was a coincidence.

Editing

None at all, the photo is as raw as they come.

In my camera bag

At the time, not much. Now I have upgraded to a Canon Rebel t5, and I love it. I usually have a flexible tripod with swivel joints, a classic tripod, an external flash, a thick white stock paper, and a lot of 32 GB SD cards.

Feedback

Never miss an opportunity and follow your instincts. There is a saying that we photograph the things we love and what we would miss. Photography the things YOU want to photograph, even if it's not aesthetically pleasing to others, there is no point to passion if you don't enjoy it. The more you enjoy the subject, the better the outcome. Also, wait. The best things come to those who wait. For example of the lighting isn't ideal, instead of fiddling with settings wait a little while. Sometimes it just means remembering the spot and coming back to it later. I keep a journal of all the places I photograph. Makes things so much easier when I remember a path, flower, or place I wanted to shoot. Patience is key.
