This girl wanted a very specific look for her Senior pictures. I think she pulls it off quite nicely.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at a local park and wildflower area near where I lived at the time. The model was my sweet neighbor who had a love for the vintage look and that type of shoot.

Time

It was taken in late afternoon as the sun started to go behind the wooded tree line.

Lighting

There was some nice filtered lighting coming through the trees to give the photo a little bit softer look.

Equipment

Still using my Nikon D80 which is the same camera I used for this shot. No flash was used as the light was good.

Inspiration

I had been wanting to do a vintage style shoot for a long time and my friend’s daughter was all about a vintage look at the time and was happy to be my model. We did a full day of shooting in many locations and outfits. She used many shots as her senior pictures.

Editing

Not much. Did a basic black and white conversion but that’s all.

In my camera bag

My Nikon, several lenses, off camera speed light, flash benders, cleaning supplies and extra batteries for a basic shoot.

Feedback

Scouting out the locations and knowing what the light will be like at specific times is key for me in getting great shots in natural light. I’m a huge planner and make a detailed schedule with the amount of time at each location, travel time, prep time for the model, etc. I do this for all my big shoots. Planning it all takes a lot of time but it’s so worth the result.
