Thanks for entering my challenge, and winning my judge's choice. I felt this wasn't just three of something, it told a story. It was clearly taken in conditions most wouldn't even have bothered with.

Hi, This is such a stunning photo! Wolves are my absolute favorite animal. I have not had the opportunity to photograph them yet. Do you get to be around them often? Where was this taken?

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Parc Omega near Montebello Quebec.

Time

This is one of my favourite images. I remember seeing the fog in the early morning and hoping it would last long enough to take advantage of it. I like the mood fog gives to any image. I think this image was taken at about 10:00 am.

Lighting

The overcast and foggy morning creates a nice even lighting situation all the while adding an air of mystery.

Equipment

I shot this image with a full frame Nikon body; likely a D3s and a 70 - 200 mm lens. It was hand held a just used the ambient light trying to capture a compelling composition of the three wolves.

Inspiration

I came across this scene; identified the various compositional elements and I was just happy to be able to capture this image. Moments like this do not last very long...

Editing

This was a raw capture but did not require a lot of post processing. I may have corrected for any colour cast, added sharpening, adjusted the exposure and perhaps a crop.

In my camera bag

I usually carry as much gear as I can to take advance of any photo opportunity. That includes several bodies; D7100, D3s, D4, D800 and a multitude of lines ranging from 14mm to 600 mm along with teleconverters and a tripod. My favourite lens is the 600 mm I use primarily for birds but the best gear is the one in your hands...

Feedback

This type situation does not present itself everyday nor an every visit. I usually seek out poor weather conditions as those generally offer the more interesting yet challenging images. That includes, rain, overcast, low light and fog. The weather channel is my constant reference in deciding when and where to go shoot. Another thing is to have patience and observe the subject at hand and learn to recognize if not predict certain types of behaviour and then do your best to recognize and capture those special moments.
