I love sunsets, and this one was one of the most spectacular I have ever seen. Unfortunately, it came at a price, as even though there was a storm that had just passed through it was partially created by the sun reflecting off the particles in the air from all the forest fires raging in drought-striken California. It literally looked as though the clouds were on fire. Photographed above Salmon Lake in the Gold Lakes Recreation area, off Highway 49, near Sierra City, California

I just entered the skies on fire challenge and looked to see what the competition was and this blew me away.

Nina, this IS spectacular! What a capture! You were a lucky girl to be there for such a beautiful display. I'd be so proud if this were mine! ;)

Excellent blend of technique and artistry. It's certainly sad so much was destroyed to create this scene.

wow wow wow - I agree with you about the price of the phototure, but you sure did it good! It does look like the world's on fire.

Spectacular beauty from a disaster... Hopefully if you ever get sunsets like this again, they're all natural. The fires, despite the destruction, does bring renewal. An outstanding image Nina!!!.

Yes, very unfortunate. But it is such a dramatic shot. Well done, Nina.

There were times in Western Canada this past summer when the similar effect happened because of the Forest Fires. However it is a beautiful Sunset image all the same. Fabulous capture that is very stunning!

Beautiful capture....under sad conditions. I am hoping the little rain we got this winter will help reduce the fire dangers some this summer!!
