Survival Story

Last fall I saw a large snapping turtle capture and kill a full sized duck. I had never heard of that before. I heard they went after ducklings and smaller animals, but I thought adult ducks would be safe. I was wrong.
This morning I came across a male and female duck. One of them was obviously caught by a snapping turtle at some point but got away. His neck was stripped of feathers, his beak was broken off and you could see his tongue occasionally poking though and he was limping.
The good news is he got away and it seems like this couple is still going about their day waddling through the lake as if nothing ever happened. I guess that even in the wild there are great stories of survival and overcoming adversity..
