Ramses II was one of the most powerful and influential pharaohs in Egypt, ruling in 1279 BC for 66 years until his death in 1213 BC. He lived to be 92. This is the temple of Abu Simbel, just one of the many architectural monuments, which still dominate the Egyptian landscape of today. The two temples are situated in Nubia, close to Lake Nasser, and were meant to commemorate his reign and that of his queen, Nefertari.
