Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Swanage during a very hot summer holiday in 2012. I had noticed that sunrise was spectacular and I was determined to get the best shot I could.

Time

This shot meant I had to get out of bed at about 4.30am to catch the sunrise. We were staying in a rented house on the front, and I remember my wife not being too enthusiastic about my getting up at that time. However, it was worth it.

Lighting

I took a number of shots of the sun coming up over the boats moored up, but it wasn't until I arrived at the marina that I saw the sun shining on the water between the masts, and I knew it was going to be a good shot.

Equipment

Shot using a Fuji Finepix HS10 bridge camera, hand held.

Inspiration

Just the beautiful colours and the symmetry of the picture, the cables crossing the shot were another feature I liked.

Editing

None whatsoever, I had not heard of Photoshop or Lightroom at that time so the shot is as it came straight out of the camera.

In my camera bag

I now use a Pentax K50 with the 18-135 lens and carry a 50 mm just in case. I find the Pentax gives really good colour reproduction. I also helps that it is weather proof.
