I am freelance field guide in South Africa and the owner of African Safari Guru Tours and Lodge Transfers South Africa and just so passionate about our wildlife and beauty that it offers for photographic opportunities.Time
I was out on a Pilanesberg National park day safari with my clients from British Airways. Having traversed the park on extensively, I have a set route covering all the best forms of biodiversity for my clients experience allowing them the opportunities to see pretty much everything. Yes, we all know tat has to do with being in the right place at the right time however I had sighted some fresh tracks of cubs and a adult lioness so we followed them until such time they moved off the road. I calculated my next move by saying that we should go and visit the hide about 400m from here and sit and wait for any possibilities of them going to have a drink of water and possibly see other forms of wildlife there too. It was about 15 minutes of tranquillity until my guest shouted out, CAT, CAT... I turned my head to see that it was a lioness chasing a warthog from about 200m away. We watched in amazement before our eyes with much excitement. All of a sudden a big cloud of dust was formed and I said she has got him.... I then knew that there was a loop road that would take us down to the kill right where the lioness had captured the warthog and rushed my guests to the land rover so that we could get there to see everything first hand and up close. Guest were ecstatic and I was over the moon as this is not a everyday sighting although it is happening every day out here in the wilderness. We watch this lioness throttle the air passage until the warthog gave in and the battle was won by the lioness. She somehow injured here hind leg through chasing the warthog and struggled along to drag the warthog to safety by means of hiding the kill under a tree and away from the sight of any vultures that may be in and around this region. I then counter acted and went back to the road to intercept the lioness and her kill and that how I captured this image as she slowly dragged the warthog another 150m to safety. Only in Africa!Lighting
