It was January 27th of 2015 that I received a special birthday gift. A gift that couldn't be purchased, made or even stolen. Massachusetts was rocked by a massive snowstorm that dumped snow heights of nearly three feet throughout the state. Although we were overdue for an accumulating snowstorm, most people in the area were "less then ecstatic" about the results. I however, took the opportunity to rummage through the nearby forest to hunt for some new pictures waiting to be seized. As you would imagine, walking through snow that nearly finds its way to an average man's waist is astonishingly tiring. So when I got to the end of my hike I decided to take the road home. The blizzard was nearly finished, so a clear sidewalk was a phenomenon that does not exist in this inclement weather and as a result I was forced to shuffle into the snowbanks to avoid being mauled by a snowplow or any other drivers braving the elements. I was about half way home when i stumbled upon a holy figure gripping a young child frozen in the untouched snow, illuminated by lights with a ghastly presence. The scene seemed entirely grim and I struggled to realize this was the entrance of a church I have known all my life. I said to myself, "so what if a plow hits me and I am left bloody in the street, I will get this picture at any cost." Luckily, the price wasn't my life, just a pair of sore feet and soggy pants, nothing a pellet stove and hot coffee can't fix.
