Location
This was taken at Kuang Si Waterfalls in Luang Prabang, Laos. The wow factor starts at the bottom of the mountain. On my way up passing through different pockets of turquoise pool coming from the top of the mountain. And then the big WOW! This is the most beautiful waterfall I have ever seen in my life! If I didn't know better it looked almost like a Hollywood setting.Time
The time of day was perfect, late afternoon at 6.00 pm, it was warm and with no direct sunlight - my favourite time of day. To be in the right place at the right time was an opportunity for me to capture the beauty of God's work and for me to be able to express the feeling of sensation and to be able to share this with everyone.Lighting
Because of the dense foliage of the forest and the small clear sky opening around the waterfall, it provided for smooth, clear and soft shadows. With the sun going down and dusk approaching, the landscape was serene with just the right amount of soft light.Equipment
I actually got caught out (lesson to learn) because I only had my Canon 550D and Tamron 18-270 mm camera, hand held with no tripod, thinking I was going to shoot from a long distance. Taken at a speed of 1/125 seconds at F/4.0 ISO 200 with no flash.Inspiration
It doesn't take much for anyone to be inspired when you are surrounded with the the sheer beauty of the waterfall, the sight and sound and smell of Mother Nature's work. I wanted to express the feeling and vibe that I was experiencing through my lens. I felt fortunate to have been there to witness this and record it with my camera.Editing
I'm not really big on post-processing though nowadays I only photograph in raw. With this photo I just used the basics of Lightroom, brushes, tone curves, colour and details. In my camera bag
Photography for me right now is just a hobby which I enjoy immensely. I never go anywhere without a camera handy. I pack a Canon 550D with an 18-55 mm and a 55-250 mm lens as well as a Canon 60D with a heavy Tamron 24-70 mm, F2.8 - love this combo as well as Tamron 18-270 mm, F/3.5 - my old time favourite and a Manfrotto tripod, with a swivel head.Feedback
Do not get caught out, come prepared. A tripod is always good. Take in the scenery first and have a really good look before you start shooting away and take your time and be patient. Don't chase your photo ideas, let the photos flow through your lens. Critique your own ideas and shoot until you are happy and satisfied with the outcome.
