Behind The Lens
Location
It was taken Fifty Point Beach, near Hamilton, Ontario, CanadaTime
It was taken early morning, just at the start of day break. I got up early and drove out to the peer ruins before sunrise.Lighting
When I got to the peer ruins the sun had not yet risen, but I could tell by the colds that there was going to be a spectacular sunrise, if the sun hit a gap in the clouds. Fortunately it did.Equipment
The camera was a Nikon D600 with a wide angle lens. I used a graduated ND filter to lighten the foreground.Inspiration
I wanted to give the impression of these old peer ruins and the vast lake and sky so I chose to use a wide angle lens.Editing
Some selective lightening/darkening and slight saturation of the coloursIn my camera bag
Nikon D600 camera body, a f2.8 14-24 wide angle lens, and few other assorted lenses. Polarizing filters and graduated neutral density filters. It's not in the bag, but I use a manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Good planning, and getting up early pays off! Getting up early can be a risk sometimes, because you don't know what kind of a day you are going to get (there are many times I have gotten up early in the morning only to find less-than-spectacular shooting conditions) but on those days when the conditions are right it can be spectacular.
