This was taken at my home on one of our tables. I wanted to set up a shot that had relevance to the poem by William Cowper and this set up fitted the bill perfectly.Time
6am - I'm an early riser as we run a farm and have horses as well. My photography has to fit in around farm and horse work - generally by 6am I have fed lambs and mucked out!Lighting
I don't really like using flash but had to on this occasion.Equipment
DSLR Sony Alpha 700. ISO: 100. 50 -100 mm lens. Camera flash only.Inspiration
William Cowper's poem. I have never really been interested in still life shots but I had decided to challenge my photography by choosing a different subject each month, just randomly, I do however like poetry so I tried to combine my two loves.Editing
Very little, just increased the saturation slightly. In my camera bag
At the time I had a Sony DSLR 700 but I now have a Nikon D800 with a 28 - 300mm lens.Feedback
It's very easy to stick with the genres that you are good at but that really doesn't encourage you to improve as you get into a comfortable rut. It's a good idea to get out of your comfort zone and try new ideas - which is where contests like Viewbug help as they constantly challenge you to try new ideas. I believe that if you are happy with the results then others will be as well - it's a matter of confidence in your own abilities and the daring to stretch them.
