Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken out on Koonya Beach which is on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia,

Time

This was taken out just before the sun set for the day.

Lighting

It was a nice warm evening with a golden glow all around which was perfect for a sunset shot.

Equipment

I used my Sony A99 camera on a tripod and a slightly long shutter speed hence making the water look misty and smooth with a 3 stop neutral density filter.

Inspiration

This spot has three rocks in a triangular shape. I decided to shoot the sunset between the two front rocks, giving it a different view from what most people would shoot. The third rock is behind me and not seen in the picture. I wanted to use the small rock as the foreground and use the side rocks as a frame for the sun. I was pleasantly surprised as to how the picture turned out. It looks like a picture from out of space,

Editing

I always shoot raw and so did my processing in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I normally carry my Sony A99 with me most times. I make sure my batteries are charged and always carry a few spare ones. Carry two Neutral density filters one a 3 stop and a 10 stop filter, a remote, cleaning equipment and of course my tripod.

Feedback

I would suggest reading photography books, looking at videos and above all going out and putting into practice all that u have read and seen and trying to do things a bit different from everyone else. Practice is the only way one can improve so go out and give it a shot. The earth is art the photographer is only a witness.
