Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on our first evening in Croatia. We were halfway through our meal as the sun started setting and as it such a fantastic sight I just picked up my camera and headed outside.

Time

Around 7pm local time, it was the first sunset of the holiday and pretty spectacular.

Lighting

No lighting was used, I was getting to know the camera and it was on full auto. One of those lucky shots really.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon EOS 11OOD using a 18/55 lens, no tripod or flash was used.

Inspiration

It was the first sunset we had seen so I had to try capture it. I had taken a fair number from the terrace then I noticed the man setting out his fishing rods so I wandered round as I thought he would make a good focal point. I took just two shots of him, one where he is stood casting and this one, the one where he is casting is ok but the rod is line with the horizon so is not as easily seen this one just seemed to work better.

Editing

The only thing I did was to crop it a little to take away some of the concrete jetty and press the optimise button which made it a little lighter. I do not have ps or lr so I am limited in what I can do.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon EOS 1100D with kit lens a tamron telephoto lens and a canon lens for portraits, I am just starting to take it a little more seriously so have just upgraded to a Canon EOS 700D which has replaced the 1100D in my bag.

Feedback

This was one of those moment that just seemed to be right. Always be aware of your surroundings and the constant changes, this may sound silly but a lot of people are not aware of what goes on around them. The perfect opportunity can appear at any moment and if you are ready you can capture something special. This was one of those moments for me.
