Behind The Lens

Location

Bow Lake on the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park

Time

This was taken on a night time shoot

Lighting

The night was pretty cloudy with the cloud covering a beautiful full moon. Luckily the moon was strong enough to shine through parts of the cloud cover

Equipment

Canon T4i Sigma 10-22 Vanguard tripod

Inspiration

The water was choppy and i wanted to highlight crowfoot mountain with smooth water around to reflect the peacefulness of the evening. with a long exposure the water became silky smooth

Editing

I used LR5 to process the photo. I applied some noise reduction and some basic highlights, shadows adjustments to the photo. very little was done.

In my camera bag

Since taking this photo I have upgraded to a canon 6D. In my bag is the following Canon 6D Canon 17-40mm f4 Canon 24-104mm f4 Canon 70-200mm f4 Rokinon 14mm 2.8 Lee Filters Big Stopper

Feedback

Get out there and experiment with your equipment. don't be afraid to try different settings. Really find out how far you can push your ISO with night work before the photo becomes unusable due to noise. I really like using the Rokinon at night now as it allows me to work with some quicker shutter speeds along with the 6D to really capture the stars sharp. Have fun. night time is one of the best and most rewarding times to get out and photograph
