Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture at a wild flower bed, close to a playground.

Time

It was towards the end of the day.

Lighting

We went to the playground so the kids could play there. I took my camera along so I could grab some shots of the kids, till I discover the wild flower bed close by, full of flowers and butterflies- an opportunity I couldn't pass by!

Equipment

I used a canon 60 D and the lens canon 18-200 5.6.

Inspiration

I love butterflies! If I happen to see one and have a camera around I take a lot of pictures of them!

Editing

In Photoshop I enhanced contrast and sharpening.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon 6D and 60 D, sigma 24-70 2.8, sigma 70-200 2.8, canon 50 mm 1.8, canon 18-200 5.6 and a sigma 10-20 5.6

Feedback

Butterflies move really fast - unless it's a cooler day - so patients is necessarily. In the picture I took the sun was going down, which gave a really soft light. Also I love my long lens as it creates a shallow depth of field, and blurrs out the background. After all I learned a fast shutter speed is necessary to shoot butterflies. With different angles and height positions you can get interesting views of the butterfly. The time of the day and different weather effects the light and the outcome of the picture as well. It's fun to try different things and to challenge yourself, so consistency is the key to capture the perfect photo.
