Frost has taken over the landscape as it is patiently waiting for the sunrise. Along with the sun comes the promise of (a little) warmth. Until then the landscape holds it's breath and abides the cold.

Location
The shot was taken in Zoeterwoude, The Netherlands. My home country is filled with windmills, especially in the countryside. I used to pass this specific windmill every day on my way over to work and everyday the conditions were different. This specific morning was very cold and frost had covered the landscape. It was a sight I had not seen before at this location.Time
It was taken in the end of November. In that time of year the sun has not risen on my daily commute. Luckily I had planned to try to capture an other location so I brought all my photographic gear with me. When I approached this location on my bike I just had to stop and take a shot. The pre sunset light makes for a strange spectacle. I love to shoot around sunrise or sunset. The colors and conditions are always at their interesting at those times of dayLighting
The natural light was already pretty balanced because it was around 15 minutes before sunrise. Still I decided to take out a 0.3 Hard Grad ND filter to tweak the balance of the sky with the landscape. I just love the side light in this image and how it subtle lights up the frost on the leaves of the plants and grasses.Equipment
This was shot on my old Nikon D90 with an the Nikkor walkaround lense of 18-200 VR, I did use a tripod and a 0.3 hard grad ND filterInspiration
I saw this windmill every day and it it a happy subject of many of my images. The conditions this specific dat of the weather and the colors of the pre dawn sky just made me pull over my bike and forget about everything else, I just had to take this photo! I love the leading line of the small ditch that has a nice bend and ends at the mill it just leads your eye gently through the image and brings it to the subject.Editing
I used Apple Aperture for the raw processing and colour tweaks and some photoshop for the lense corrections. Later I re-processed the image using Lightroom and a combination of photoshop and On1 Perfect Effects to bring out more details. In my camera bag
Nowadays I have a Nikon D7100, Tamron 17-50 mm 2.8 a Tokina 11-16 2.8 and the Nikkor 18-200. Further I have la bunch of hard and soft grad ND-filters and of course a tripod.Feedback
