My first thought when I saw this image was "precious". I was happy to see it is an entry in the precious contest. This screams PRECIOUS. Lovely image full of feeling, superb composition, great focus on the subjects due to your camera skills of blurring the FG and BG. Excellent capture!

You deserve an award just for getting two chocolate labs to sit still long enough to get the photo!!

Great shot! I'm sure Stout has Toby well in hand by now and they're best buds. I used to have black and yellow labs in days gone by. They're great dogs. Congrats on your award! ~ Jamie

Beautiful capture. Everything about it is exquisite. Blend of warm earthy tones from the dogs and nature merge perfectly to highlight a beautiful moment.

Great point of view, nice tonal balance and depth of field. Really rocks it on the cuteness scale.

Due to the new family addition, choc-labrador Toby, 3 months old in this image, and his high energy level we were "forced" to get out as soon as our eyes opened, early! :-) To be fair on him, we loved it. Without a dog you find 1000 excuses to stay close to home but with these two no way, never a dull moment. Stout, the eldest labrador here 4 years old, didn't look at us for nearly 2 months as if he wanted us to know how annoyed he got by this little radical.Lighting
When walking the dogs one is tempted to take images quickly from a standing position as they move so fast. This spot, a path camouflaged by either side trees and tall shrubs, the autumn leaves on the ground but stil a bit green at the far end of the "tunnel" made me go flat down on the ground (no matter how dirty one gets:-)) always tricky to shoot against light, easlily gets overexposed. I therefore took two images to create this one. One overexposed and one underexposed.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II, on elbows with breath out and on hold, f/3.2, 1/100s (should have been much higher but we got them to sit still by bribing with loads of treats), ISO 250 with lens 24-70@70mm the second image, just for the background correction, by this time Toby would not pose any longer, I used f/5.6.Inspiration
autumn colors, chocolate labradors and the leaves on the ground....great combination I thought and to be honest because of the puppy. They are soooo cute and one easily forgets to take a proper nice image when looking at them playing. We wanted an image to keep and being worth printed.Editing
Yes, I added a vignette and I used On1 software to have the centre with the dogs in slightly lighter. As I had two images, I overlayed them and by erasing the overexposed bits from image one, the deeper colors from image two popped up.In my camera bag
Am a bit with mixed feelings about this. Nowadays we like to photograph every and any moment and therefore miss out on the feeling of "the moment" itself. So, often I don't take anything with me just to force myself of enjoying it as is. But always regret it afterwards a bit because I missed out on funny or truly photo genic moments aaarrrgghh, so IF I take my small bag with me it is the Canon 5D Mark II with a 24-70mm and the oooh sooo heavy 70-200mm lens.Feedback
Don't be afraid of getting dirty! Like a true SAS soldier one has to crawl, be very patient , focused and determined and be able to have eyes everywhere to avoid any distraction. And it is fun too to get dirty!! :-))
