This photo was taken in a class room , a few photographers playing around with some lamps trying to show that you can set a mood with about anything you have around , you just need to improviseTime
One of my all time favorite photo because is so simple but still powerful emotion , i remember it was somewhere betweet 2PM and 4PM , but the room not flooded by light from outsideLighting
I wanted to create a strong emotion in this photo using a low key light, but as simple as we can using only one one light ( desk lamp ) , the original idea was that our character is a fighter and he stands there a few moments to think and to concentrate to the fight that its coming , so because we were using only one light and we wanted to make it pop from the dark background but not lit him to much we choose to use the light as a background so we can separate him but also just to give a glimpse of the contemplation.Equipment
Settings and camera used : NIKON D70 Shutter Speed 1/160 second Aperture F/1.8 Focal Length 50 mm ISO Speed 400 Date Taken Feb 26, 2012Inspiration
it was a part of a mood exercise , started to play around with storys and how you can tell them trough a photo so in my head came the ideea of a figher and the concetration before a fight that he takes in the locker room , so i tried to imagine the low lit fighting arena and use it here to make a stronger bond between his emotionEditing
As usual this image was shoot in RAW format ( we all know you should shoot raw everytime you can ) so a little bit of post-processing was done but only the normal workflow that includes small adjustments ( like exposure ,WB , contrast , etc. ) in Adobe Lightroom , so not to much , no retouch no nothing . I wanted to keep it as simple as possible . And as a little bit of offtopic , usually i dont edit that much my photos , only small adjustments , because i try to nail it from the cameraIn my camera bag
One piece of equipment its the bag it self , usually this is alternating according to how much equipment i use , inside of this my trusty nifty fifty a Nikon 50mm f1.8D this will never dissapoint you , it will save you everytime , a Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 , a few old objectives on M42 mount like : 135mm f2.8 ( 2pcs ) another 50mm f1.8 but this time and Pentacon M42 mount , Tamrom 80-210mm f4 MACRO also an old model that i modified the mounting to fit the Nikon , my trusty Nikon D90 that i love it before it even came out on the market ( because Chase Jarvis ) , a Nissin Di-466 Speedlight , 160Led Video Lamp , and much more , everything i use depends on what i need on that dayFeedback
one of the most important thing that everyone needs to know is that you dont have any limit , the equipment its not that important , yes it helps but you must try and use everything you have around you in the most creative way to accomplish the desire mood , feeling you want to express in your photo to the audience, like in my example one desk lamp an idea and a small chat with my model we knew what we wanted so we tried to imagine a scene like one from the movies we knows and get inspired from there . so if you can't make a mood board in your head , go and make a real one with examples from everything that inspires you for that specific mood , movie frames , other pictures , it dosen't matter , a mood board its the best and easiest way to inspire you , you show what you are thinking to the model so he can understand your concept
